Richard went home to be with his Savior on Wednesday evening, February 20, 2019, at MercyOne West Medical Center in West Des Moines.

A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 25, 2019, at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Visitation will be at the funeral home, an hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be designated to Richard's family or to the First United Methodist Church.

Richard William "Dick" Thomas, 84, the son of Herbert A. and Marie Anna (Pentico) Thomas, was born August 6, 1934, in Newton. He was a graduate of the Newton Senior High School, Class of 1952. He served his country with the US Air Force from 1957 until 1961.

On September 20, 1959, Richard was united in marriage with Grace Maxine Culver at the First United Methodist Church in Newton. He had devoted his life to his wife, close friends and family. He was a 71 plus year member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton. Richard was employed as a Photographer at Dunlap and CGB Printing and Television Technician for Dooley's Music. He loved photography and was very good at it as the church's official Church Photographer, he also enjoyed spending time with his family and camping.

Those left to honor Richard's memory include his special friend, Judy Snook of Newton; brothers: Larry (Margie) Thomas of Newton and Keith (Janet) Thomas of Farmington, MN; his sisters-in-law: Violet Thomas of Canfield, OH and Arlene Thomas of Newton; his nieces and nephews: Dr. David (Michelle) Thomas, Lynn Thomas, Doug (Beth) Thomas, Julie (Gary) Dodds, Mary (Dave) McPartlin, Aaron (Jenny) Thomas, and Karin Thomas; many great nieces and great nephews; and his many good neighbors and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Maxine on June 3, 2008; brothers: John and Marvin Thomas; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and nephew Jeff Thomas and niece JoAnna Thomas. ~ The Pence Reese Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 20 Feb. 2019.
