Laurie Jean Kunkel, 68 of Newton, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2019 at her home under the care of Mercy Hospice.

A Celebration of Life held by the family will be on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Haverhill Shelter House in Haverhill. Memorials may be directed to the family. Laurie Norton was born on November 8, 1950 in Marshalltown to Jim and Marylou Norton. She was united in marriage to Douglas Kunkel on August 29, 1992 in Haverhill. Douglas passed away in April of 2009. Laurie was retired from Newton Manufacturing as a Customer Service Manager. She enjoyed camping and canoeing, reading, cooking and cherished the time with her grandchildren. Laurie will always be remembered for her quick wit, love of the outdoors and her values of peace and love.

Laurie is survived by her children: Jason (Jenny) Matteson of Marshalltown, Ben (Dawn) Matteson of Newton and Casey (Jake Woody) Edwards of Newton. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren; siblings: Nanci Ellis of Phoenix, Arizona, Peg Edel of Marshalltown and Doug (Jodi) Norton of Marshalltown and two sisters-in-law, Mary Jo (Terry) Young and Geri (Craig) Pierce.

Laurie is preceded in death by her husband Douglas, parents Jim and Marylou and brother Bob Norton and sister Linda Lou Norton. ~ The Mitchell Funeral Home, Marshalltown, Iowa 08 Feb 2019.
