Woten, Alice Bates – 1858-1937

CLEAR CREEK – Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Woten, 79, were held at the Collins Church of Christ, Thursday afternoon, Sept. 23, at two o’clock with Rev. Charles Noel, pastor in charge. Interment was at Collins.
Alice, daughter of Jasper and Marian (Reagan) Bates was born in Clear Creek township, Nov. 30, 1858.
She died at her home southwest of Collins, Tuesday, Sept. 21. She had been in failing health a year, but was bedfast just three weeks.
She was united in marriage to Abraham Woten, Nov. 21, 1907 and they made their home at Collins until his death in June 1918. Then she went to live with her brother, Sherman Bates on his farm.
She was a member of the Methodist Protestant church.
She cared for her aged parents, her brother’s orphan children and helped all her family and friends.
Surviving relatives include three brothers, John Bates of Hobart, Okla., Grant Bates, of Nevada and Sherman Bates of Collins, three sisters, Mrs. D. V. Smith and Mrs. William Holmes of Collins and Mrs. Ursula Bedell of Hastings, Neb.
Her sister came from Nebraska for the services.
