Von Hagen, 69, Dies Monday
Funeral Services Thursday for German-born Jasper County Resident
REASNOR – Adam Von Hagen, 69, died at Skiff Memorial hospital in Newton at 2:30 p.m. Monday, following a long illness. He entered the hospital Friday evening, June 25, and submitted to an operation Saturday morning.
The body was taken to Baxter, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. W. W. Watson of Reasnor in charge. Burial will be made in the cemetery near Baxter.
Born in Germany
Adam John Von Hagen was born Sept. 7, 1868, in Kassel, Germany.
He came to America at the age of 15 years and located in Philadelphia. Later he moved to Muscatine, where he located with a sister. After a few years he came to Jasper county and on Oct. 29, 1898, he took out his first naturalization papers. He became an American citizen a few years later.
Married in 1894
On Jan. 1, 1894, he was married to Laura Diehl of Baxter. Three sons, Clarence and Harry and Laren, who died very young, were born to this union.
Surviving are Mrs. Von Hagen and Harry and Clarence, one grandson and two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Krampe of Baxter and Mrs. Martha Alspach of Collins. One sister, Carrie, is deceased.
Mr. and Mrs. Von Hagen lived around Baxter and Ira until eight years ago, when they moved to Reasnor where their son, Harry, was teaching school.

REASNOR, IA – Adam John Von Hagen, son of Martin and Katherine Von Hagen, was born in Hesse Kassel, Germany, Sept. 7, 1868. He attended the school there and was confirmed in the German Reformed church. At the age of 15 years he left Germany for America. Upon arriving he located for a time in Philadelphia, Pa. Later he came west and joined his sister and family at Muscatine, Ia. later they came to settle in Jasper county on Oct. 29, 1889, he took out his last naturalization papers and became a full-fledged American citizen.
On Jan. 1, 1894, he was united in marriage to Laura Diehl of Baxter, Ia. To this union was born three sons – Clarence of Baxter, Loren, who died in infancy, and Harry.
Mr. Von Hagen became a member of the Congregational church of Baxter in 1917.
Surviving him are his wife, two sons and a sister, Hattie Kramppe of Baxter, two sisters, Martha Alspach of Collins and Carrie Von Hagen of Germany, preceded him in death.
