Mrs. Tharp, 75, Dies at Reasnor
Funeral Services to Be Held at Monroe Methodist Church Sunday
REASNOR – Mrs. J. W. Tharp, 75, of Reasnor died at her home Friday as the result of a stroke, suffered Thursday night.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. from the Methodist Episcopal church in Monroe and interment will be in the Monroe cemetery.
Mrs. Tharp, one of a family of 19 children, was born near Galesburg, Ia., and spent practically all of her life in Jasper county.
Her parents came to Jasper county in 1853, and settled on a farm near Galesburg.
Since the death of her husband two years ago, she had been spending the winters with her son, Dr. H. M. Tharp, in Monroe. However, she had returned to her home in Reasnor this spring.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Dr. Tharp of Monroe and N. W. Tharp of Newton, and four grandchildren.

MONROE – Mrs. Melvina Tharp, native resident of Jasper county, died Friday, April 23, at her home in Reasnor, two weeks after celebrating her seventy-fifth birthday anniversary.
Melvina Earp, youngest of the nineteen children of Lorenzo and Syrena Earp, was born April 10, 1862, on a farm in Jasper county, near Galesburg, Iowa. She knew the vicissitudes and trials of the early days when she and the state of Iowa were young. She participated in the labors, toils and sacrifices that were common to the pioneers of her day.
Dec. 24, 1882, she was married to John Tharp. To this union was born two sons, both of whom are living. They are Dr. Herbert M. Tharp of Monroe and Homer W. Tharp of Newton.
Also surviving are two brothers, John Earp of Grand Junction, Colo., and Thomas Earp of Sully; and four grandchildren, Winona Tharp and Loren, John and Homer Tharp, Jr.
With the exception of the first year of their married life, when Mr. and Mrs. Tharp lived at Dunreath, Ia., Mrs. Tharp spent her entire life in Jasper county, and at no time lived very far from the place where she was born.
Mrs. Tharp was a member of the Reasnor Methodist church for many years.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday afternoon, April 25, at 2:00 o’clock at the Monroe Methodist church, with the Rev. Watson in charge, assisted by Rev. R. R. Moser.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Myrtle Graffis, Mrs. L. A. Broderson, Clarence and George Tool, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Lillian Guthrie.
Pallbearers were Sam McDaniel, Herman Swank, Roy Lust, Roy Swartz, Ben Lufkin, Earnest Wilson. Burial was in the Monroe cemetery.
