Mrs. Ahrens Rites Held Last Friday
Services were held last Friday at 1:30 p.m. from the Boyd-Nickell Funeral Home at Baxter for Mrs. Ada Catherine Ahrens, 76, who was a longtime area resident of Rhodes. She passed away Wednesday, Dec. 2 at Bryant Nursing Home in State Center, where she had lived the last two months.
Rev. Bud Wilder, pastor of the United Methodist Church, Rhodes, officiated, with burial in the Hewitt Cemetery near Reasnor.
Mrs. Ahrens was born Jan. 20, 1894 at Reasnor, a daughter of William and Anna Lust Ramer. She attended Galesburg schools and married Fred Ahrens on Jan. 31. 1917 in Des Moines. They farmed in the Melbourne, Van Cleve, Rhodes and Laurel communities. They lived in the Laurel community from 1923-37 and farmed south of Rhodes until 1942 when they moved to their last home east of Rhodes.
Survivors include a daughter, Miss Dorothy Ahrens, Rhodes; two sisters, Mrs. Ella Dearinger, Reasnor, and Mrs. Millie Poortinga, Newton. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1967 and an infant son and two brothers.
