Stroke Fatal To B. E. Owens, 69
Burrell E. Owens, 69, 134 East Tenth Street South, died at noon today at his home as the result of a stroke, suffered Sunday.
Mr. Owens, who has been in poor health for the past two years, was formerly employed by the Parsons company for a number of years and also by the city.
Surviving are his wife, six children, John Owens, George Owens, Don Owens, Mrs. Denny McDermott and Mrs. Charles Scott, all of Newton, and Mrs. Merritt Atwood of Albuquerque, N.M., and several grandchildren.

Owens Funeral Services Set For Saturday
Funeral services for Burrel C. Owens, 69, will be conducted from the Morgan funeral home Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Palo Alto cemetery.
Mr. Owens died Wednesday noon at his home, 124 East Tenth Street South, as the result of a stroke, suffered Sunday.
Burrell C. Owens, son of Thomas and Lucissa (Cudney) Owens, was born at Wapello, Ia., Sept. 13, 1868, and died at his home in Newton April 14, at the age of 69 years and 7 months.
Mr. Owens came to Newton when 15 years of age, and had been a resident here since, with the exception of his service in Company L, Fiftieth Iowa, during the Spanish American War.
He was married to Mabel Townsend, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Townsend, April 2, 1900, and to this union six children were born, all of whom are living.
Surviving relatives include his wife; six children, John and Don, at home, Mrs. Charles Scott and Mrs. Denny McDermott of Newton and Mrs. Merritt Atwood and George Owens of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandsons, Norman and Leighton Atwood, Richard Scott, and Pat and David McDermott, and one sister, Mrs. H. M. Platt of Houston, Tex.

Military Rites Held For Owens
Spanish American War Veteran Buried Saturday in Palo Alto Cemetery
Funeral services for Burrell C. Owens, 69, Spanish American War veteran, were conducted from the Morgan funeral home Saturday at 2:30 p.m. by Dr. Leslie B. Logan, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church.
Charles Baker furnished the music for the rites, singing “City Foursquare” and “Face to Face.” He was accompanied by Mrs. Richard Toedt.
Interment was in the Palo Alto cemetery, where military rites were conducted. Members of American Legion Post No. 111, formed the firing squad and the color guard and Spanish American War veterans served as pallbearers.
Pallbearers were Ed Stevenson, John Callahan, William O’Neill, Leroy Harsha, Andrew Streeter and John Wert. The flowers were arranged by Mrs. W. H. Bradbury and Mrs. Frank B. Logan.
