Former Monroe Woman Dies at Portland, Ore.
Mrs. Martha Hankins Knight, native resident of Monroe, died in Portland, Ore., Monday, Jan. 11, of pneumonia, according to word received here by friends.
Mrs. Knight, wife of Frank L. Knight, suffered a heart attack four years ago and had been in poor health since. She was widely known in civic and philanthropic work in Portland until her illness.
Funeral services were held at Portland Thursday, Jan. 14, and burial was in Riverview cemetery there.
Mrs. Knight was born in Monroe, where she and Mr. Knight attended the public school. Then she moved to Boulder, Colo., with her mother. She attended the University of Colorado and was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.
Mrs. Knight had lived in Portland since her marriage about 25 years ago. She and her husband made three trips around the world, a visit to Jamaica, to South America and other places.
Surviving are her husband; two brothers, James C. and Dr. Elton E. Hankins of Los Angeles, Calif., and a sister, Mrs. Dan McAllister of Boulder, Colo.
