BAXTER -- Verba R. Dodd, 80, of Baxter died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Gene Bucklin of Baxter Evangelical Free Church officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery in Baxter.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in her name and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Andrew and Maude (Williams) Nichol, she was born Sept. 26, 1923, in rural Rhodes. On Feb. 1, 1939, she married Lloyd A. Dodd in Newton. She was a homemaker and was a resident of the Baxter area for 63 years.

She is survived by her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Sue Dodd of Colo; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Irene Bartholomew of Davenport.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Reuben, Walter, Ray and Furley Nichol; and four sisters, Mary Harre, Margaret Breese, Alice Pierce and Betty Nichol in infancy.
