BAXTER -- Lyle J. Russell Sr., 63, of Baxter died at his home Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, while under the care of Homeward Hospice.

Following cremation at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory, graveside memorial services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

No visitation is planned at this time. Memorial contributions may be directed in his name to his family. Condolences may be sent to www.purseldavis.com .

The son of Clarence and Nellie (Cavanaugh) Russell, he was born Feb. 7, 1941, in Marshalltown. He was raised and educated in Marshalltown. On Feb. 7, 1960, he married Joan Zink in Marshalltown. They lived in Marshalltown for several years before moving to rural Baxter. He was employed by Fisher Controls for more than 37 years and retired in 1995. He enjoyed the outdoors, bow hunting for deer, raising and training herding dogs and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of UAW Local 893.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Becky McKeag, Lyle Russell Jr., David and his wife Teri Russell and Lynn Russell, all of Marshalltown, and Jeannie Prue of Ferguson; his siblings, Art and Lottie Russell of Marshalltown, Emma and Elmer Propp of Tama, Chuck and Kay Russell of Marshalltown, Kate and Dick Niederhauser of Waterloo, Ida and Glen Phillips of Arkansas; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Nellie and Kermit.
