JULY 19, 1949 ~ DECEMBER 25, 2018 (AGE 69)

Kathy’s memorial service will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, January 19, 2019, at the Newton Church of the Way, 2306 S. 3rd Ave. E. in Newton.

The family will greet friends with a coffee time at the church immediately following the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the family in Kathy’s name (please make checks payable to Greg Birky). Memorials may be left at the church on the day of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home, please add, Attn: Birky Family on the envelope.

Kathy A. Warner Birky, the daughter of Charles Warner and Viola Armstrong was born July 19, 1949 in Des Moines, Iowa. She was a graduate of Corning High School in Corning, Iowa. Kathy also graduated from Grandview University in Des Moines.

On December 1, 2006, Kathy was united in marriage with Greg J. Birky in Ankeny, Iowa. She was a counselor for 18 years working at the Iowa Correctional Institution for Women in Mitchellville and the Newton Correctional Facility in Newton. Kathy was a member of the Newton Church of the Way in Newton. Kathy loved having her family with her, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed camping, drawing and painting with watercolors.

Kathy died on Tuesday, December 25, 2018, at her home in Newton. She was 69. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Michael Warner and John Weatherly.

Those left to cherish Kathy’s memory are her husband, Greg of Newton; daughter, Desiree (Bob) Smith of Des Moines; three sons, Jeremy (Paula) Cobb of Maryville, Missouri, Aaron (Rachel) Croy of Des Moines and Michael Croy of Newton; step daughter, Carolyn Birky of Cedar Rapids; step son, Allan Birky of Cedar Rapids; her fifteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sister, Patty (Mike) Hascom of Creston; and her many nieces and nephews. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 25 Dec 2018.
