Kathleen June Opperud, 80, of Newton died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Glen Oswalt of Newton officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials in her name may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Lee Roy J. and Geneva M. (Fabor) Oldfield, she was born Feb. 8, 1924, in Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School and was a lifelong resident of Newton. On Dec. 27, 1975, she married Carroll G. Opperud in Newton. She worked for American Republic Insurance Company in claims for 18 years. She retired in 1988.

Mrs. Opperud was a member of the Women of the Moose, VFW Post No. 1655 Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bingo and traveling.

She is survived by her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Pam Albee Jr. of Round Rock, Texas; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Burton Breckenridge and Sherry Golik, all of Newton, and Janet Brown of San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jerry Oldfield of Garland, Texas, Ramona Dvorak of Cedar Rapids and Bud Oldfield of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant great-grandchild.
