Bertha DeGreef, 80, of Newton died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at USA Healthcare-Newton.

Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in rural Newton.

No visitation has been scheduled. Memorials will be accepted to the Monarch Wing of Hospice of Jasper County and may be left at the funeral home the day of the service.

The daughter of Jake and Hendrika (Kingma) DeGreef, she was born Sept. 29, 1924, in Buena Vista Township of Jasper County. She attended Jasper County country schools and was a lifelong resident of Newton. She worked for Dun-Lap Manufacturing Company for 40 years. She enjoyed the outdoors, collecting rocks and watching nature.

Survivors include three brothers and two sisters-in-law, John and Connie DeGreef of Newton, Bill DeGreef of Newton and Jake and Freda DeGreef of Kellogg; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Martinis DeGreef; a sister, Elizabeth DeGreef; and a nephew.
