Frank Edward Cox, 79, formerly of Newton, died today, Nov. 3, 2004, of heart failure at Vian Nursing Home in Vian, Okla.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cookson United Methodist Church in Cookson, Okla., with the Rev. Marilyn Schellhamer officiating. Burial will be at Cookson Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Cookson Methodist Church, 21685 Cookson Bend Road, Cookson Okla. 74427.

The son of Lowell and Eunice Cox, he was born Nov. 9, 1924, in Colfax. He attended Newton Senior High School. He served during World War II and worked at the Maytag Company until he retired to Oklahoma in 1972.

Mr. Cox was an avid fisherman and acted as a fishing guide on Lake Tenkiller. He wrote fishing reports for a local newspaper and was often a guest on local radio stations. He was Santa at banks in Tahlequah, Okla., for 20 years and participated in numerous volunteer projects in the area.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jerry Binegar of Newton; three step-sons and two daughters-in-law, Alan and Judi Koch of Newton, Delaine Koch of Belvidere, Ill., and Dan and Mae Koch of Loveland, Colo.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Richard "Bill" and Izzy Cox of Newton and Donald Cox of Cookson, Okla.; two step-sisters and a brother-in-law, Lucille and Don Wood and Jane Chase, all of Fort Smith, Ark.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his second wife, Marie; his parents; stepmother, Mabel; a sister-in-law, Pat; and a stepdaughter, Mary.
