Ernest Ray DeReus, age 87 of Prairie City, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Mitchell Village Care Center in Mitchellville. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Aidan's Anglican Church, celebrated by Father Bradford Johnson, in Des Moines. Burial will take place at Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City. A Masonic Service will be held on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Shriner's Hospital and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes

The son of Guysbert and Agnes (Henderson) DeReus, Ernie was born on February 18, 1931 in Prairie City. He graduated from Prairie City High School and served in the United States Army. On December 20, 1952 he was united in marriage to Norma Darlene Sparks, of West Plains, Missouri, at the Prairie City United Methodist Church. Ernie lived in the Prairie City area his entire life. He farmed and was a rural mail carrier for the US Postal service for 25 years. Ernie was a member of St. Aidan's Anglican Church in Des Moines, Preston Lodge 218, Scottish Rite 32* Mason and a member of the ZA GA ZIG Shriners in Altoona. In his retirement, Ernie enjoyed restoring Tractors.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife Norma; a daughter, Donna DeReus; a son Jeff (Merri) DeReus; four grandchildren, Megan (Chad) Kephart, Amanda (Bobby) Norlin, Sam (Katelyn Buehrer) DeReus and Joe DeReus; three great grandchildren, Jacob, Matthew, and Corbin Kephart; a sister, Alice Faye Frank and a sister-in-law, Nora DeReus Wright.

Preceding Ernie in death were his parents and a brother, Don DeReus. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Prairie City, Iowa 13 Dec 2018.
