Memorial services for Susan Mettler will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. A visitation with the family present will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time.

Susan Kay Mettler, the daughter of Alfred and Alice Laver, was born on June 22, 1946, in Carlisle, Iowa. After moving to Newton, Susan attended Newton Community Schools and graduated from Newton Senior High School with the Class of 1964. Susan had lived in Des Moines, Iowa and Biloxi, Mississippi, but most of her life was in Newton, Iowa. She retired from Maytag Company in Dryer. She also retired from the Newton Community Schools where she was a bus driver. She was a true Newton Cardinal Fan where she drove the bus for the sports teams.

Susan was a member of Community Heights Alliance Church and UAW Local 997 Union. She loved being with family, traveling and keeping tabs on her Newton Cardinals.

Susan, 72, died on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at Skiff Medical Center Mercy Hospice in Newton. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents and brother Harold Gear.

Those left to honor the memory of Susan include son Gene (Lila) Mettler II of Norfolk, VA, his children Gene Mettler III and Gabe Mettler, son George (Christy) Mettler of Newton, IA, his children Morgan Mettler, Paige Mettler, Greg Mettler. His wife’s children; Trevor Gooding, Troy Gooding, Nicole Triplett, Madison Gooding-Hunt, daughter Kimberly (Michael) Kiffmeyer of Alton, IL, their children Madison Kiffmeyer and Miranda Kiffmeyer, Great grandchildren Alex Lopez, Brynnlee Kelderman and Samuel Needs, sister Donna (Robert) Thomason of Monroe, IA., brother Ken (Kathy) Laver of Newton, IA, several nieces and nephews and friends. ~ The Pence Reese Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 24 Nov 2018.
