Fatally Scalded – Last Friday afternoon, by withdrawing the plug from the churn her mother had just filled with boiling water to scald it out, the 11-months-old daughter of W. A. Hotchkin, of Sherman township suddenly released a torrent which poured down upon her breast, saturating her flannel dress and scalding her so terribly that she died the following day after eighteen hours of agony. Mrs. Hotchkin left the baby playing on the floor of the kitchen not a moment before the accident – hurrying back when she heard the screams of the child, but all too late. Dr. Hawk, who was immediately summoned, found the case beyond human aid. The funeral was held last Sunday from the residence, on the old Keesler farm, and was generally attended by neighbors and friends, who united in extending sympathy to and sharing the sorrow of the inconsolable parents.
