Colleen M. Spain, the daughter of Andrew E. and Theresa Anna Marie (Lauber) Edwards, was born May 28, 1929 in Kellogg, Iowa. She graduated from the Kellogg High School with the class of 1945.
On November 20, 1948, Colleen was united in marriage with Robert M. “Bob” Spain in Kellogg, Iowa. Colleen had worked for the Jack and Jill Clothing Store and the First Newton National Bank in Newton, Iowa. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Newton, where she was very involved in various ministries and classes including the choir, Good Cheer; the lady’s bible study and working as a funeral lunch volunteer. She was also an active member of the Newton Golden K Kiwanis; the Jasper County American Cancer Society; RSVP; Skiff Auxiliary; and Junior Achievement. Colleen enjoyed her card club for over 60 years; watching sports on tv; working crossword puzzles; shopping and collecting angels.

Colleen died on Friday, October 19, 2018 at Newton Health Care Center in Newton, Iowa She was 89 years old. Colleen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert on December 4, 2002; her brothers: Gerald, Don, Paul and Everett; her sisters, Dorothy Hubler and Barbara in infancy.

Those left to honor Colleen’s memory include her son, Larry (Mollie) Spain; her daughters, Linda (Tim) Maack and Kathy (Steve) Vetter; her seven grandchildren; her fifteen great grandchildren; her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim and Judy Spain and Betty Springer.

Services will be 10:30 am, Friday, November 23, 2018 at First Lutheran Church in Newton. The family will greet friends following the interment during lunch at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the First Lutheran Church. Arrangement have been entrusted to the care of Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. ~ The Pence Reese Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 19 Oct 2018.
