Lillie M. Benskin Rites Conducted

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the Smith Funeral Home, for Mrs. Lillie Mae Benskin, 79, of the Mayflower Home, she died Saturday evening at her apartment of an apparent heart condition.

The Rev. Newell E. Davis, pastor of the United Church of Christ, and the Rev. Ralph Beebe of the Mayflower Home, officiated at the services. Organist was Mrs. Williard Heffner and vocalist was Mrs. Keith Stahl.

Pallbearers were Wendel Benskin, Earl Kinnaird, Wayne Kinnaird, Wendell Kinnaird, Roger McCuley and Roger Moyer. Flower bearers were Mr. and Mrs. Joe See. Burial was in Sugar Grove Cemetery near Metz, Iowa.

The daughter of William E. and Anna E. Williams Hutchinson, Mrs. Benskin was born near Kellogg, Iowa on Jan. 30, 1890. On Dec. 30, 1908, she was married to Curtis W. Benskin near Algona, Iowa. To this marriage three children were born. Soon after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Benskin farmed near Selby, S. Dak., for five years. While there, their first son, Arthur Curtis Benskin, died in infancy.

In 1913, Mr. and Mrs. Benskin moved to Wesley, Iowa, and in 1902 they moved to a farm near Laurel, Iowa, where they farmed for 20 years. They then returned to Wesley and the couple lived their until Mr. Benskin died in 1951. Mrs. Benskin made her home in Grinnell since 1953 and had lived at the Mayflower Home for almost 15 years.

Mrs. Benskin was a member of the United Church of Christ in Grinnell.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Hattie Mae Kinnaird of Des Moines; one son, Vearl S. Benskin of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; three brothers, Lloyd Hutchinson, Kellogg, Elmer Hutchinson, Eagle Grove and Franklin Hutchinson, Alden; and four sisters - Mrs. Albert (Lenora) Lorh and Mrs. Carl (Alice) Chalstrom of Ft. Dodge, Mrs. Ralph (Myrtle) Faircloth of Marshalltown, and Mrs. Clarence (Zella) Burgeson of Ossian, Iowa. Mrs. Benskin was preceded in death by her husband, one son, two brothers and one sister. ~ Newton Daily News August 30, 1969.
