Robert H. Batty Died October 22, 1964
Robert Henry Batty, son of John J. and Mary A. Somerson Batty, was born in Colfax, Iowa, August 11, 1894 and passed away at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, October 22, 1963 at the age of 70 years, 2 months and 11 days.
He left Colfax at an early age going to Illinois where he worked in the mines, and building construction around and in Peoria. He spent 3 years in Germany after World War I with the Army of Occupation. In June of 1959 he came to make his home with his sister, Mrs. Scott (Essie) Heatherly at Des Moines. He has been in poor health the past 5 years, suffering with a heart ailment and miner’s asthma. In the last 2 years he had gradually grown worse and had been in and out of the hospital a number of times.
His parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Batty; six brothers, John J. Jr., Frank, Albert, John Edward, Arthur and George and one sister, Mrs. Vivian McCabe preceded him in death.
Mr. Batty is survived by 2 brothers and 2 sisters, Clarence (Bud) of Des Moines, Roy of Mitchellville, Mrs. Scott (Essie) Heatherly of Des Moines and Mrs. Henry (Lillian) Dolinsek of Melrose, Iowa; also a number of nieces and nephews.
He will be missed by his family, friends and neighbors. Bob always had a friendly hi and the wave of his hand to all.
Services were held at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Des Moines. Rev. Tom Foglesong, former pastor of the Christian Church of Colfax, conducted the services. Burial was in the family plot at the Colfax Cemetery.
Pallbearers were nephews: Skip Heatherly, Jack Batty, Jim McPhee, Dwight Thompson, Robert Fees and Harold Holdefer.
