A. O. Silver died in Pasadena, Cal. Jan. 15th, 1895, to which place he had gone for his health, being a victim of that dread malady, Bright’s disease.
He was born in Columbia Co., Ohio, Jan. 26th, 1834, his age being 61 years, 11 months and 15 days. He was married to Miss Elizabeth D. Rayburn, Dec. 24th, 1861. To them were born 4 daughters, two of whom died in their infancy. The other two, Miss Nellie Silver and Miss Callie, are with the mother, left to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father. But they mourn not as those who have no hope as he had expressed himself as willing and ready to go if it was God’s will; he had a good many years ago been happily converted to God and joined the M.E. church of which he remained a faithful member till death. He never lost sight of his duty toward God and his fellowmen, was liberal in his support of the church and other benevolences; kind and obliging as a neighbor and as a business man, truthful and honest in his dealings.
In Jan. 1861 he enlisted as a private in Company K, 28th Iowa Infantry, and faithfully served his country till the close of the war. He came to Iowa nearly 40 years ago and resided in Lynnville, Jasper Co. all that time with the exception of about 3 years. Two years ago he disposed of his property and business and moved to Chicago, where his health failed and he was advised to change climate which he did, but he steadily grew worse till death released him from his suffering. It can be truthfully said a good man has been called from labor to reward. His body will be brought to Lynnville in May for interment.
