Venia Belle Trevits, daughter of John and Cynthia Trevits, was born in Buena Vista Township, Jasper County, Iowa, July 26, 1876 and died in Los Angeles, California, March 13, 1907, at the age of 30 years, 7 months and 17 days.

She joined the Methodist Protestant Church at Hixon Grove Chapel on February 10, 1889, and on May 5th of the same year was baptized and taken into full membership.

On August 21, 1895, she was married to A. L. Davis of that neighborhood and in a few weeks moved to Colorado where they spent almost a year. Returning, the live one-half mile south of Murphy for two years.

Her health failing, they spent two years in Florida, hoping she might recover in a milder climate. They returned home, and her health failing so rapidly, they went to Davenport for special treatment. She improved for a short time but no permanent gain was realized.

Last October she went to California with the firm belief that the climate would benefit her. Her hopes were all in vain. She was a great sufferer for several years, but she abided her time of affliction with patience and Christian forbearance, uncomplaining and never revealed to those around her what she suffered. While life was full of bright hopes, she was perfectly resigned to the Master’s will. “Be ye also ready for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of man cometh.”

Besides the sorrowing husband, she leaves a father, mother, one sister, one brother and a host of relatives to mourn her untimely death.

Her husband arrived with the remains on Tuesday, March 19, and the funeral was held at Hixon Grove Chapel March 20, 1907, conducted by Rev. Ryan of Grinnell, and she was laid to rest in Slagel Cemetery. ~ The Newton [IA] Daily News, Friday, March 22, 1907, Page 2, Column 3
