Yesterday at Prairie City occurred the death of two old settlers of Jasper County, Mrs. James Farley and William Cochran. Of the passing of these good people the Register and Leader says:
Mr. Cochran was a pioneer of Jasper County, and was 86 years old. He was an engineer for Uncle Sam during the war, running a supply train.
Mrs. Farley was 68 years old. The two were long time friends and lived within a few blocks of each other. They were both members of the Old Settlers’ Association. This makes the third death within a week. S. O. Scott, 70 years old, dying a few days ago. The funeral of the first two will be held Thursday. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, IA, Thursday, March 7, 1907, Page 4, Column 4
