January 23, 1951 ~ July 5, 2018 (Age 67)Jon Charles Davis, 67, of rural Newton died on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 10, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials to Jon’s family may be left at the funeral home.
Jon, the son of Frank L. and Gladys H. (Sullivan) Davis, was born on January 23, 1951 in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1969 and attended Central College in Pella for one year. Jon worked at the Maytag Company in Newton for 32 years, retiring in 2003. On April 4, 1997, Jon was united in marriage with Catherine E. Smith in Newton.
Jon was a member of the Arbor Day Foundation and enjoyed planting trees and flowers for birds and animals. He was an avid fisherman taking an annual trip to Rainy Lake in Northern Minnesota. He also liked to bird watch, spend time with his family, and go camping, both at the Iowa State Fair and other campgrounds.
Jon is survived by his wife, Catherine of Newton; mother, Gladys Davis of Newton; brother, Thomas Davis of Newton; sister, Sharon Jolley of Newton; brothers-in-law, Bryon (Diana) Smith and Kim Smith, both of Colfax; his nieces and nephews, Jeff (Kelly) Jolley, Jason Jolley, Mike (Missy) Smith, Melissa Porter, Erik Davis, and Jennifer Newman; great nieces and nephews, Brooke Porter, Cameron Porter, Baylee Porter, Kali Smith, Cole Smith, Shad Jolley, Jessica (Zach) Sudbrock, Isabelle Jolley, and Jordyn Newman; great-great-niece, Clarke Sue Sudbrock; many cousins including special cousins, Brian (Angie) Davis, Chris (Kelsey) Davis, and Mike (Sarah) Davis; and his fishing companions.
