Juliana “Judy” L. Lammers, 97, of Newton, died Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 19 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The family will greet friend from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials to Sacred Heart Catholic Church maybe left at the church the morning of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Judy, the daughter of Peter and Frances (Schmidt) Witte, was born Feb. 15, 1921, in Menominee, Neb. She graduated from St. Boniface High School in Menominee. In 1940, Judy moved to Newton, and began working at the Maytag Company. During World War II, Judy was a “Rosie the Riveter” and was sent to build B29 Bombers in Washington and California. Following the war, Judy returned to Newton, and continued working at the Maytag Company until her retirement in 1976.
On July 2, 1956, Judy was united in marriage with Gilbert J. Lammers in Newton. They were blessed with two sons, Eugene and John. Judy was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she sang in the choir, was part of the Sacred Heart Society, taught CCD, sponsored people entering the church and was in charge of the alter clothes and candles for more than 20 years. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the UAW Local 997 Retirees Union. Judy enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter, Morgan, going on walks with her dogs and keeping a nice home.
Those left to honor Judy’s memory are her sons, Eugene Lammers of Newton and John Lammers (Vicki Andersen) of Newton; granddaughter, Morgan Julian Lammers; step-grandchildren, Nicole, Kasey, Shelby, RaiAnn, Krisandra and Andrew; and her step-great-grandchildren, Billy, TyLynn, Tiegan and Avery. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gilbert in 1988; brothers, Elmer, Edwin and Irvin Witte; and sisters, Mary Lamb, Viola Rieken, Frances Bailey, Evelyn Witte and Bernetta Witte.
