Brought Home for BurialNews of the death of Man. G. Perry of Cedar Rapids, brought sadness to many kindred and friends in this city and county, where he was born and spent all of his life until the first of last July when he and his little family moved to cedar Rapids where he there took a position as fireman on a Rock Island train. His death occurred at 5 o’clock on Wednesday morning, January 16th, after an illness with pneumonia for just one week. The attack was a very violet one, giving little hope of recovery from the very start. His brothers and sisters were summoned and all excepting two sisters were with him when the final summons came. Just before his death he regained consciousness and talked lovingly to his wife and their 7-year old son Raymond, and to the other loved ones at his bedside. Although the family had lived in Cedar Rapids but a few months, and their acquaintance had been but limited, when affliction came there was no lack of friends. The Knights of Pythias, Fraternal Bankers, and scores of others rendered every assistance possible to Mr. Perry during his sickness, and did not forget the wife and little con when death had robbed them of husband and father. The knights of Pythias also detailed one of their members, Mr. Elmer Fitzgerrald, to accompany the funeral cortege to Newton, where they arrived on Thursday evening, the remains being taken to the home of Mr. Perry’s sister, Mrs. Frank Stoltz on West Marion street.
The funeral services were held at the Christian church, of which Mr. Perry was a member, on Friday morning, conducted by Rev. Chas. E. Freeman the pastor. Music was furnished by Mrs. Lambert Hall, Mrs. Eli Kelly, Miss May freeman, Mr. R. C. Daly and Mr. Geo. Hall, with Mrs. E. C. Smith as organist. A large number of friends were present, including delegations from the K. P. Lodge and Fire Department, Mr. Perry having been members of both. After the services the remains were taken to the cemetery near the old home at Galesburg, and laid to rest beside his parents and other loved one.
Manly G. Perry was born near Galesburg, January 1, 1988, where all of his life was spent, until he moved to Newton about ten years ago, where he was employed in the Hawkeye Incubator Works until he moved to Cedar Rapids in July. He was married to Miss Alta Mather in Galesburg, Aug. 26, 1896, and to them was born one son, Raymond, now 7 years of age. His parents, Daniel and Myra Perry, were among the early settlers of Galesburg, both being dead for many years. Deceased is survived by two brothers and five sisters: Frank Perry of Atlantic; George Perry of Galesburg; Mrs. Perry Allee of Lynnville; Mrs. Neil Cating of Galesburg; Mrs. Frank Stoltz of Newton; Mrs. Fred Hook of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Mrs. W. S. Baty of Alamosa, cal. – All excepting the last two being present at the funeral. Henry S. Efnor of this city was an uncle of Mr. Perry. ~ Newspaper unknown.
