Daniel M. Bartlett
Died, July 4, 1875, at his residence in Prairie City, Iowa, Daniel M. Bartlett, Esq., in the 36th year of his age.
The deceased was born in Morgan Co., Ohio, in which State he passed his early life, coming to Mahaska Co., this state in 1865. He was engaged in merchandising there until in 1866 when he formed a partnership with Mr. M. Sheldon, now in Colorado, and Mr. H. C. DeWolf, still a citizen of this place and came to Prairie City and engaged in the mercantile line. In 1869 Mr. Bartlett retired from the firm and became Postmaster.
He was an energetic and intelligent citizen and was closely identified with the business prosperity and the political interests of the county. He was a Republican and held a number of offices at different time at the hands of his party. He was a member of the M. E. Church of this place and died with full confidence in the faith he possessed.
He was buried on Monday by the Masonic Fraternity of this place, of which he was a member, assisted by a large delegation from Fairview Lodge at Monroe, with their beautiful and impressive ceremony. The service was preached by Rev. J. W. Snodgrass, his pastor in the M. E. Church. ~ Prairie City News, Prairie City, IA, July 9, 1875
