19 May 1947 - 27 Apr 2018Carole R. Cross, 70, of Sioux City, passed away Friday, April 27, 2018, at Embassy Healthcare in Sergeant Bluff. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 2 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. Burial will be at Floyd Township Cemetery in Bronson, following services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be donated to the charity of their choosing at a later date.
Carole was born May 19, 1947, in Sioux City. She grew up in Bronson, and graduated from Woodbury Central High School in 1965. Carole was a meter maid for the city of Sioux City for several years. She then moved to Newton, where she owned and operated The Silk Daisy and raised her four sons, Charles, Jody, Jeffrey and Casey. After her sons had grown, she moved back to Sioux City, to be close to her mother, siblings, and the Amick family, along with other extended family members. Once back in the Siouxland area, she worked at Sioux City Paint as an interior specialist, retiring in the fall of 2016.
Carole was an avid bowler, involved in many leagues throughout the years. She was very artistic and creative; doing stained glass projects, upcycling furniture, interior decorating, crocheting and gardening flowers.
Survivors include her sons, Chuck (Teresa) Conner and their children Shea and Jasmine of Des Moines, Jody (Brandy) Conner and their children, Presten, Kayla, and Cole of Newton, Jeffrey (Melissa) Conner and their children, Cillian, Caleb and Caitlyn of Waukee, and Casey (Anthea) Cross of Perry; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Vermilyea and his family; sister, Phyllis Johnson and her family; and her dog companion, Suzi.
Carole was preceded in death by her mother, Luella Vermilyea; and sister, Sheryl “Irene.” ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News 02 May 2018.
