Mingo Items - The residents of Mingo were shocked and saddened Saturday shortly after noon when the news was given out that Lon Rumbaugh had passed away at his home quite suddenly. Mr. Rumbaugh had been a patient sufferer with heart disease and other complications for several years, but the end was not thought so near. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock at the Methodist church.

Jay Rumbaugh, of Omaha, and Chas. Rumbaugh, of Burwell, Nebraska, arrived here Monday in response to the message telling of their father’s death.

A. L. Rumbaugh was born in Allen county, Ohio, January 20, 1840, and died in Mingo, Iowa, April 15, 1916, aged 67 years, 2 months and 25 days. At the age of 8 years he moved with his parents to Greencastle, Jasper County, Iowa.
On February 12, 1871, he was united in marriage with Louisa M. Meese. To this union were born eight children, five sons and three daughters, all living to comfort the bereaved wife and mother, except one son who died in infancy, George L., residing in Mingo; Ward H., in Ira; Charles A., in Burwell, Nebraska; Jay V., in Omaha, Nebraska; Mrs. Darlie M. Weston, in Newton, Iowa; Mrs. Effie M. Livingston, in Burwell, Nebraska; Mrs. Opal G. Welsh, in Des Moines, Iowa
He also leaves to mourn his loss twenty-two grandchildren, four brothers and two sisters, F. M. Rumbaugh, of Nashua; George, of Ira; Lincoln, of Dillion, Montana; Charles of Elkhart, Iowa; Mrs. Belle Browning, of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Sallie Merrill, of Fremont, Nebraska.
For almost ten years he was at times a great sufferer, being tenderly cared for by his faithful wife and loving children. All during his life he has sacrificed himself of many pleasures, comforts and conveniences that he might leave his accumulations to his children.

Rumbaugh was held from the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon conducted by Reverend Hesler of the Christian church in Newton. A large concourse of relatives, friends and neighbors were assembled to pay their last respects to this worthy and esteemed citizen.
