Boys Drowned – About noon Wednesday, four boys, Bert Hall, John Callanan, Sheridan Hubbard and Lee Winpiggler went in bathing at the “swimming hole” near the bridge north of town. Bert Hall, a boy thirteen years of age, got beyond his depth and in spite of the efforts of the boys to rescue him was drowned. Word was sent to town and in a short time fifty men were on the spot. Several divers endeavored to find the body but were not successful, until Frank Vinson arrived and about the first dive he brought the body to the surface. Dr. Gile who was in the crowd used his utmost endeavors to resuscitate him, but in vain. This should be a warning to the boys – one that they should heed. Never go into the water unless there are older ones with you.
