Obituary
Died July 31st, at the residence of her brother-in-law, W. M. Davis, five miles south-west of Prairie City, Nancy E. Hammond. Deceased was born in Ohio, and was 27 years of age. She was not a member of any church. Her life however was characterized by uprightness, always exhibiting mildness of disposition and a profound respect for the religion of Christ. For several months previous to her death she frequently expressed her desire to be identified with some branch of the Christian church. - In this she was prevented by her state of health. In her last hours she gave evidence of strong faith in God, expressed confidence in Christ’s power to save and of his presence with her. She spoke words of encouragement to friends and relatives, expressing gratitude for their kindness, telling them she was going home and exhorting them to meet her in heaven. Her death was one of triumph in the “Cross of Christ.”
The funeral services were conducted by the pastor of the M.E. Church, at Prairie City, at 3 p.m. of 1st inst.
The relatives of the deceased desire to thank the friends who have kindly attended them and administered to their wants.
