Gertrude “Trudy” Wehrle was born the eldest of 11 children on June 25, 1925, to Cornelius “Cornie” and Artje “Artie” (Van Maanen) Van Wyk. At an early age, Trudy worked to help support her family working as a waitress in Sully and Pella, where she met her husband, Raymond Wehrle. Sept. 1, 1949, they were married at the Taintor United Methodist Church, and Trudy wore a wedding dress made from a silk parachute that Raymond brought back from the war while stationed in Japan. To this union, two children were born, Marvin and Mary.
Raymond and Trudy lived, farmed, and raised their family on the Wehrle family homestead west of Taintor. After 48 years, they moved to Lynnville. Trudy was a typical farmer’s wife and very active helping Raymond on the farm. Faith and family were very important to Trudy. She was an avid quilter and made hundreds of quilts over the years for family, friends, and missions. Raymond and Trudy were faithful members of the Taintor United Methodist Church and they were instrumental in the building of the new Taintor Community Church. Trudy was very active in the church and taught Sunday School for over 40 years.
She is survived by her son and families, Marvin (Ellen) Wehrle; Jason (Melissa) Wehrle, Nicole, and Brayden; Keith Wehrle; Cheinette Van Wyk, Dustin (Jennifer) Van Wyk: Trevor and Hunter; Derrick Van Wyk: Trinity, Jackson, and Aubrey; Devon Van Wyk; Carly (Aaron) Braimah; Paige (Owayne) Stone: Alaina; Benjamin Van Wyk and Yana Van Wyk; Douglas (Renae) Gillam, Dakota, Cierra, and Ryane; Jacqueline (Nick) Sklenar, Jackson, Nolan, and Lena; Michael (Stephanie) Vogt, Penny; and Lu (Choua) Sayaxang.
