Henry J. “Hank” Terlouw, 92, of Grinnell and formerly of Lynnville, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Lynnville Friends Church with Pastor Jamie Bogaard officiating. Burial was in the Sully Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Henry J. Terlouw Memorial Fund.
Hank was born Aug. 25, 1925, on the family farm in Jasper County near Sully, the son of Henry and Alice (Nikkel) Terlouw. He was raised in the Sully area and attended Sudlow County School near his home. He began his life-long career in farming right after receiving his education.
Feb. 20, 1948, he was married to Mary Grace Van Wyk in Sully. The couple crop farmed in the Bethel Community in Jasper County where he ran a beef cow/calf operation. He was an active member of Lynnville Friends Church and enjoyed working on the church trustee committee. He was also active on the Friends Cemetery Committee located near Lynnville.
Hank loved his life on the farm, as it was both his passion and his hobby. He enjoyed all facets in running a successful farm operation and was a good steward of the land, which included tiling and cropland conservation. He was devoted to his family and loved family gatherings and spending time with his granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
Hank is survived by his two daughters, Ronda Lanser and Rashele (Phil) Nikkel of Sully; four granddaughters, Dawn (Jason) Allbee of Sully, Trisha (Blake) Korns of rural Otley, Andrea (Blaine) Shutts of Altoona, and Shannon Nikkel of Sully and her boyfriend, Levi Bennington; five great-grandchildren, Derik, Logan, and Jenna Allbee of Sully and Olivia and Andrew Korns of rural Otley; one sister, Jennie Terlouw of Grinnell; one brother, Bob Terlouw of Grinnell; and one sister-in-law, Lois Vander Schel of Pella. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Grace in 2008; one sister, Marie Terlouw; three brothers, Gerritt, James, and Ollie Terlouw; and two sisters-in-law, Ella Mae Terlouw and Donna Terlouw.
