Phyllis Louise Mouchka, 79, of Newton died on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 22, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Memorials to Phyllis’ name may be left at the funeral home.

Phyllis, the daughter of Andy and Minnie (Kloppenborg) Miller, was born on April 6, 1938 in Baxter. She grew up in Baxter and graduated from Baxter High School in 1956.

On September 16, 1956, Phyllis was united in marriage with Raymond J. Mouchka in Baxter. They made their home in Newton. Phyllis worked as a telephone operator, a sales clerk at JC Penney for 23 years, and later retired from Coast to Coast. She was a member of the Moose Lodge and the VFW Auxiliary. Phyllis enjoyed gardening and loved taking care of her plants and flowers. She was a fan of the NY Yankees, Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Newton Cardinals. Phyllis went to all of her grandchildren’s activities and never missed a church league softball game. She also liked playing cards, lottery tickets, and going to the casino.

Phyllis is survived by her sons, Jim (Ruby) Mouchka of Norwalk and David (Cindy) Mouchka of West Des Moines; daughter, Regina (Jim) Marshall of Newton; grandchildren, Kyle (Kristina) Marshall, Emily (Joe) Buckley, Abby (Matt) Miller, and Jessica Mouchka; her four great-grandchildren, Keegan Marshall, Logan Buckley, Clara Buckley, and Clark Miller; siblings, Linda (Charlie) Van Sice, Sandy (Doe) Bucklin, Marty Connelly, Bruce (Canice) Connelly, and Victor (Joyce) Connelly; her aunt, Ruby Davis of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond in 2004; and siblings, Emily Latch, Duwane Miller, Jerry Miller, Sharon Smith, Berna Bucklin, and a sibling in infancy. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 15 Feb 2018.
