Louie Modlin
1934 - 2018

Louie E. Modlin, the son of William Taylor and Lula (Whaley) Modlin, was born August 25, 1934 in El Paso, Arkansas. On August 3, 1963, Louie was united in marriage with Sharon Raye Rankin in rural Runnells, Iowa. Louie worked for the Maytag Company in Newton. He retired from the Machine Shop in 1989. Louie was a member of the Newton Church of the Way, the Newton Masonic Lodge #59 AF & AM where he was past Master, the UAW Retirees Union local #997; he was past president of the UAW local #997where he was a past president, and the Jasper County Senior Citizens where he was a former president. He was also a past president of the UAW Local #997 and was Chairman of the Board of the Maytag Employees Credit Union. In his spare time, he could usually be found pheasant hunting.

Louie died on Tuesday, January 23, 2018. He was 83 years old. Louie was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Hal Modlin; his half-brothers, Clarence Benton, Oliver Modlin, Delmer Modlin, W.T. Modlin and his half-sister, Mary Ellen Boatman.

Those left to honor Louie’s memory include his wife, Sharon R. Modlin; his daughters, Susie M. (Arther) Stephens and Sharon K. Modlin (Rick Pierce); his son, Louis C. (Alayna) Modlin; his granddaughter, Heather (Brent) Hallum and a great grandson, William Hallum; his sisters, Velda Clark (Fred Sedoures), Lottie Jarnagin (Tom Lloyd), Judy (Bob) Cass, Billie (Dean) Burk, Lula (Mike) Bucklin; his brother, Dal (Linda) Modlin and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am at the Newton Church of the Way. The family will greet friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Thursday evening at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. A public Masonic Service will begin at 5:00 pm. Memorials may be designated to the Newton Church of the Way building fund, the Newton Masonic Lodge or to Mercy Hospice and may be left at the church or at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home. ~ The Pence Reese Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa Tues 23 Jan 2018.
