Mrs. Alva Baker Services Friday; Dies on Tuesday
Funeral services for Mrs. Alva (Mabel E.) Baker, 85, of 213 E. Fourth St. S., a lifelong resident of Jasper County, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Toland Funeral Home.
Dr. Edwin Frohardt, minister of the First Methodist Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Rebekah services will be conducted by the Margaret Rebekah Lodge No. 237 at the funeral home.
Survivors are a daughter, Margaret; three brothers, Will Shull of Ames, Harvey Shull of Oskaloosa and Otto Shull of Portland, Ore; and a sister, Mrs. E. H. Cutler of Waterloo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband April 23, 1961; two brothers; and a sister.
Mrs. Baker was a member of the First Methodist Church, a charter member of the Palo Alto Grange, a 65-year member of the Margaret Rebekah Lodge No. 237 and a member of the Past Noble Grands.
The daughter of James and Fannie Bartholomew Shull, was born May 15, 1882, near Newton.
She was married to Alva Baker Oct. 26, 1904, in Newton.
The family lived on the Baker farm near Newton for a number of years before moving to Newton.
Mrs. Baker died Tuesday evening at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines after suffering a heart attack. ~ The Newton Daily News September 21, 1967
