Death of Dr. J. H. Anderson

George T. Anderson has received the sad news of the death of his brother, Dr. Jos. H. Anderson, which occurred at his home in Colburn, Tippecanoe County, Ind., on Saturday morning, June 10th. This news will carry sorrow to many hearts in this community, where Dr. Anderson was formerly well known. While on a visit to Newton in 1862, he enlisted in Capt. Cozad’s company, D of the Fortieth Iowa. He was soon promoted to the medical department and was assigned as assistant surgeon of the First Iowa Cavalry, serving with that command until the close of the Civil War. His wife is a cousin of Oliver P. Morton, Indiana’s war governor. In 1875 he represented Tippecanoe County in the Indiana Legislature. He was a fine physician, an ideal citizen of fine social qualities and possessed of striking traits of character that command the admiration and respect of all. His widow and one daughter survive him. ~ The Newton Record Thursday, June 22, 1899
