Hold Rites for H.S. Altemeier
Life-long Resident of Jasper County Buried in St. John's CemeteryFuneral services for Henry S. Altemeier, 71, life-long resident of Jasper county, were conducted from the St. John's Evangelical church Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. by the pastor, the Rev. John Ruhl.
Preceding the church rites, a brief prayer service was conducted at 12:45 p.m. from the home by the Rev. Guilford Street, pastor of the Center Friends church.
Music for the services at the church was furnished by a male quartet, composed of Richard Toedt, Louis Toedt, Maurice Korte and Charles Korte, with Mrs. Richard Toedt as accompanist. The songs were "Rock of Ages' and "God Be With You Until We Meet Again.".
Interment was in the St. John's cemetery, with the following serving as pallbearers: Fred Longfellow, John Brooks, Archie Brooks, Charles Brooks, Roy Hagedorn and Everett Altemeier. Mrs. Chris Olson and Mrs. H.J. Meyer were in charge of the flowers.
Mr. Altemeier died Sunday morning at his home four miles northeast of Newton, where he had resided for the last 41 years.
Surviving relatives are two children, Fred C. Altemeier and Alma Altemeier, both of near Newton; two brothers, Carl Altemeier of Newton and Simon Altemeier of Minneapolis and a sister, Mary Altemeier, who made her home with him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Mulbrook Altemeier, in 1918, and by a brother, Fred Altemeier, and three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Hagedorn, Mrs. Lena Longfellow and Mrs. Emma Griebel.
