Death of Thomas Allum

News reaches us of the death of Thomas Allum, at his home in San Diego, Calif., last Sunday. Mr. Allum came to Newton in 1856 with his family, and made this his home a greater part of the time, until about ten or twelve years ago, when he moved to California.

In 1862 he enlisted in Company C, 22nd Iowa Infantry, and after a year’s service, was discharged on account of disabilities incurred.

His wife died in this city in 1863, and he was afterward married to Miss Rebecca Wert, who survives him. Of his children by his first marriage, whom our people will well remember, are Mrs. Minerva Garton and Mrs. Belle Robeskie of Des Moines; Leroy W. Allum and Mrs. Sarah Blanton, of San Diego, Cal. Mr. Allum was about seventy-nine years of age. ~ The Newton Record Newton, IA, March 12, 1897
