KILLED BY ACCIDENT – Last Friday morning, Emmons Alloway, a young man twenty years of age, quite well known in Newton, was killed near Norwalk on the Des Moines and Kansas City Railroad. He was working on a construction train, when the scoop used by the train fell back on him and he was knocked on the track, his head striking a rail. His death was instantaneous as the skull was crushed. A similar accident happened to him once before, hurting him considerably. The remains were taken to Rushville near where he and his brother owned a good farm. The funeral occurred Saturday morning at eleven o’clock in the Methodist Church of Rushville and he was laid to rest in the cemetery near by. His brother Edward Alloway and friends have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement.
CARD OF THANKS – I wish to extend my grateful thanks to the many kind friends who assisted in the burial of my beloved brother, Emmons Alloway, who was instantly killed Friday morning, July 27, 1894, while engaged in rail road work south of Des Mines. Their kindness I shall ever remember.
