Henry I. Alfree, Life-Long Jasper Resident, Dies

Henry I. Alfree, 88, life-long resident of Jasper county and a member of The Daily News Three-Quarter Century club, died at 6:45 a.m. today at the Skiff Memorial hospital.

Mr. Alfree had been a patient at the hospital for the last 10 days. Death was due to a heart condition.

Funeral services have been arranged tentatively for Thursday afternoon at the Toland funeral home. The Rev. Ralph Eckard, pastor of the First Lutheran church, will officiate and burial will be in Sugar Grove cemetery.

Mr. Alfree is survived by a son, James Alfree of Colfax; and three daughters, Mrs. Vera Lundberg and Mrs. Minnie Wyatt, both of Newton and Mrs. Edith Lundberg of Alcester, S. D.

Also surviving are 23 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.

Mr. Alfree was preceded in death by his wife, who died in 1925, and a daughter, who died in 1940.

A retired farmer, Mr. Alfree was born May 19, 1866 in Sherman township, the son of A. Kyle and Sophia Alfree.

He was married to Belle Sanderson Oct. 15, 1890 at Newton. He farmed until 1920 when he moved to Newton.

Mr. Alfree was a member of the Lutheran church, the Odd Fellows Lodge, the Grange and the Elks club. ~ Newton Daily News, Newton, IA, March 8, 1955
