BAXTER — James Allan, 97, of Baxter died Monday, Jan. 21, at his home. Funeral services will be Friday at the Baxter Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Rollin Walters officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery in Baxter. Boyd-Davis Funeral Home in Baxter is handling arrangements. Friends may call today from 3 to 9 p.m. at the church where family will be available from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in his name.
The son of John and Janet Galloway Allan, he was born May 19, 1904, in Baxter. He attended Baxter School and on Jan. 2, 1929, he married Grace Loupee in Marshalltown. He farmed near Baxter his entire life and had worked part-time at the Boyd-Davis Funeral Home for more than 50 years, retiring in the summer of 1997. He was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ and the Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Bud and Beth of Baxter, a daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Ike Kielly of Baxter, nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, a brother, Earl of Baxter, and a sister, Bessie Flora of Baxter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and five brothers. ~ Newton Daily News 24 January 2002
