December 17, 2017Kenneth Knudson, 97, of Marshalltown, IA passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2017, at the Grandview Heights Rehab and Healthcare Center in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 21, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services at the church. Interment will be at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established. Arrangements have been entrusted to Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown. Kenneth was born April 10, 1920, on the family farm in Timber Creek Township, IA. He was the youngest of four children, born to Andrew and Anna (Tjossem) Knudson, and was very proud of his Norwegian heritage. Kenneth graduated from Marshalltown High School at the age of 16. Following graduation, he farmed with his family, before joining the Army. He was shipped overseas during the signing of the Armistice, and was trained to be the official Army photographer in the European theatre. Attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, upon his return, he rejoined the family farming operation. On October 4, 1950, Kenneth was united in marriage to Ellen Roberta Wilcox. Together they raised five daughters. Upon retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and restoring older homes.
Kenneth is survived by five daughters, Rebecca (Richard) Engelking of Conrad, IA, Cynthia Greenfield of Cedar Rapids, IA, Kristine (Jeffrey) McKibben of Newton, IA, Marcia (Walter) Kleman of Berlin, WI, and Marilyn (Dennis) Keplin of Brandon, WI; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his loving wife, Roberta; son-in-law, Morris Greenfield, and his granddaughter, Andrea Engelking Schultz. ~ The Anderson Funeral Homes, Marshalltown, Iowa 17 Dec 2017.
