Mary Ella Oldaker, whose death occurred at Seattle, Washington, a week ago today and whose remains were brought to this city for burial Tuesday, was born in Bucyrus, Ohio, July 5, 1855.

When but a child she came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Treman, to Newton to reside. Here she grew to womanhood, attended the public schools, and later took an active part in the social affairs, especially in the musical circles for she had a sweet voice, and generously used it for the pleasure of others.

In 1882, June 21, she became the wife of S. R. Oldaker. The first few years of their married life they were often in Newton, several weeks and months at a time, then Mr. Oldaker’s business took them into the west, and for the last fifteen or twenty years their home has been in Montana and Washington.

For some years Mrs. Oldaker had been afflicted with stomach trouble and since September was a patient in a hospital in Seattle. Several days before her death she underwent an operation, and it was then that a message was sent to her sister, Miss Anna Treman at Anamosa, who hastened to her bedside but did not reach Seattle until the sister had passed away, only in time to accompany the husband on the long, sad trip to this city with the remains of the wife, daughter and sister, to whom never again could the administer comfort and cheer and from whom they could never again receive sympathy and help. All that is left them now are tender memories of the loved one they laid to rest beside the mother in our cemetery, after the short, simple services that were attended by sympathizing friends from this and other cities.
