==========================================
The death of Mrs. Esther Ann McCarty occurred last Tuesday at 1 o’clock, Nov. 7, 1905, after a long illness; for it is more than a year ago that she fell and injured her hip, and then last May, while still confined to her bed, she suffered a stroke of paralysis, which, combined with her other ailments, caused her death.

Esther Ann Mason was born March 27, 1827, at Cross Creek, Washington County, Pa. When 23 years of age she married James McCarty. In 1881 with her husband and family she removed to Jasper County, where they have since resided. Her husband’s death occurred January 22, 1899. Since then Mrs. McCarty has made her home with her children, for the past three years with her son, O. E. McCarty, at the old homestead.

Mrs. McCarty became a member of the Presbyterian Church when a girl. Coming to Jasper County to reside she joined the Congregational Church at Wittemberg. Five years ago she united with the Presbyterian Church in Newton. She was a dear Christian woman and acquired many friends. As a wife and mother she was most faithful and loving and as a Christian, true and earnest. During the past few months she has been a great sufferer but at all times resigned to the will of God.

The funeral was held at her late home Friday at 11 a.m. Rev. E. F. Chambers, assisted by Rev. R. F. Lavender, conducted the services. The flowers were beautiful and represented the love of her friends and dear ones. The Newton Daily News, Monday, November 13, 1905, Page 1, Column 3
