William Paynter Dies Very Suddenly
Was Prominent Miner and Active Political Worker
William Paynter passed away suddenly Monday morning about nine o’clock with pneumonia. He went to work in the mines last Wednesday, but at the time had a heavy cold. Pneumonia followed at once and the remainder of the week he struggled with the affliction. His heart began to fail early Monday morning and in spite of the efforts of the physician and his family, the heart was not able to cope with the disease and he passed away suddenly at nine o’clock.
Mr. Paynter was born in Wales. He has been a resident of Colfax a good many years, where he has been very active in the Miner’s Union of which he was Vice President at the time of his death, and in politics, being especially active in the Third Ward, where he has held official positions at almost every election.
Mr. Paynter was a man who had a mind of his own and did as he thought was for the best at all times and circumstances; those who did not agree with him on a subject admired him for his loyalty to the cause he believed right.
He was a member of the local United Mine Workers of America; a member of the Odd Fellow lodge in Wales never joining the local order; a member of the local Redmen, and a member of the Congregational Church in Wales.
Besides the wife and three children, Harry, Mrs. Jeanette Williams and George, two brothers in Pennsylvania, three sisters in Wales and one brother in Australia survive.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. from the Methodist Church, with Rev. F. J. Neal officiating. Interment in the Oak Hill cemetery.
