C. S. Landmesser, Lifelong Jasper Resident, Dies
Clarence S. Landmesser, 72, retired farmer and life-long resident of Jasper county, died at eight o’clock Tuesday evening of a heart attack while returning from a nearby store.
Mr. Landmesser, who had gone to the store to obtain groceries, was discovered by a passerby. Coroner Ralph Toland said a heart attack probably brought instant death.
He is survived by his wife and a half-sister, Mrs. Louise Efnor of Killduff.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
The son of Lewis and Ann Landmesser, he was born April 29, 1879, in the Mt. Zion community near Killduff. He received his early education in Jasper county schools and attended Hazel Dell academy in Newton.
He was married to Bess Margaret Zwank Feb. 26, 1902, at the home of the bride’s parents in Killduff. Mr. Landmesser farmed in the Killduff area for many years, moving to Newton upon his retirement 15 years ago. He has been a resident of Newton since his retirement.
He was a member of the Mt. Zion church, serving in the capacity of steward for several years.

Landmesser Rites Friday Afternoon
Funeral services for Clarence S. Landmesser, 72, who died Tuesday evening will be held at the Morgan Funeral Home Friday afternoon at two o’clock with Rev. B. H. Finch of Wilton Junction, Ia.; officiating. Music for the service will be furnished by Marion Welle accompanied by Mrs. Lois Stanton at the organ.
Pallbearers will be Robert Hannon, Harold Finch, John Zuidema, Harold Slatter, Melis Otten and G. B. Van Baren, Mrs. David Welle and Mrs. Raymond Sudbrook will be in charge of flowers. Burial will be in Mt. Zion cemetery.
