Mrs. G. Furniss, Former Resident, Dies at Age 92
Mrs. George Furniss, widow of a former pastor of the First Presbyterian church in Newton, died New Year’s Day at the age of 92 in a Vermillion, S. Dak., hospital of a heart ailment.
She had been hospitalized since August. Burial services will be held Friday afternoon at West Branch, Ia., in the family cemetery lot.
Mrs. Furniss was preceded in death by her husband about five years ago. Rev. Furniss was pastor of the Newton church from 1910 until April of 1920.
Survivors are one son, Edgar who is a professor at Yale University, and five daughters, Mrs. Sam (Bess) Conybeare and Mrs. Arthur (Louise) George of Lancaster, Pa., Miss Gladys Furniss of Davenport, with whom she made her home, Mrs. Vincent (Sadie) Montgomery, at whose home she was visiting when taken ill, and Mrs. W. G. (Mildred) Murray of Ames.
