September 12, 1916 ~ November 7, 2017 (age 101)

Charles Robert Korte, 101, of rural Newton died on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at Skiff Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, November 13, at the United Presbyterian Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, November 12, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials to the United Presbyterian Church or the Jasper County Historical Museum may be left at the funeral home or the church the day of the service.

Charles, the son of Charles and Ella (Boedeker) Korte, was born on September 12, 1916 at his home in rural Newton. At the age of three, he moved approximately three miles from his birthplace to the home he would live in the rest of his life. Charles graduated from Laurel High School. He was united in marriage with Betty J. Blacker on April 20, 1952 at the St. John’s Church in rural Newton. Charles was a lifetime farmer. He was a member of and served on the board of the Farm Bureau and the St. John’s Church and Cemetery. He was also a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Flying Farmers, Hereford Association, and the UPC Choir. Charles also served as a 4-H Leader. He enjoyed fishing, signing, and spending time with neighbors, friends, and family.

Those left to honor Charles’ memory are his sons, Doug (Lori) Korte of Laurel and Kevin (Kimbra) Korte of Newton; grandchildren, Erin (Todd) Dickerson, Brad Korte (Sarah Shannon and her children, Hailey, Jaden, and Mason), Justin (Emily) Korte, and Ashley Korte (Nathan Smith); great-grandchildren, Hailey Dickerson, Gavin Korte, Celeste Dickerson, and Ben Korte; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty in 2005; and his brother, Maurice Korte. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa Tues 07 Nov 2017.
