Kermit M. DeHaai, age 91 of Monroe, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2017, at The Cottages in Pella. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Prairie City United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday, November 10, 2017, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the church. The family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Wesley Life Hospice or the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. The son of Edd and Jennie (Hamilton) DeHaai, Kermit was born on September 2, 1926, in Rural Marion County. He attended Oak Ridge Country School until the 8th grade. Kermit proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII. On February 5, 1945, he was united in marriage to Frieda Musgrove at the Prairie City United Methodist Church parsonage. Kermit farmed and fed cattle, he was a steward of the land. He along with his partner, Russel DeHaai manufactured the Monroe Earth Anchor for many years. Kermit was always a "thinker" and in 1971, invented the Bumblebee Self Propelled Disc. In 1994, Kermco DeHaai became a reality with the invention of the Reel Tite Fence Stretcher. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Prairie City Odd Fellows and the Monroe American Legion. He loved to collect almost everything, some of his favorites were arrowheads and rocks. He also love his dogs and he and Frieda had at least one until they moved to Pella.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Frieda; a son Jay (Brenda) DeHaai; a daughter, Jennie (Arvin) Van Waardhuizen; four grandchildren, Alan (Vicki) DeHaai, Jayson (Kristi) DeHaai, Janine (Jeff) Bauer and David (Lynn) Deal; eight grandchildren, Zachary, Dalton, Matthew, Jessica, Ashley, Dawson, Cohen and Norah; and a sister-in-law, Rosalee DeHaai.

Preceding Kermit in death were his parents, and siblings, Lavern, Dick, Jeanette Blackledge and Eva Cowman. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Monroe, Iowa Mon 06 Nov 2017
